How much cash should I take?

Europe is similar to the US in that most vendors take a major credit card. Traveling with a credit card is an easy and convenient way to make purchases. Please note that American Express is not often accepted. Here are some key points and suggestions for currency.

• Purchase currency through most banks and credit unions.
• You will need pounds for London, Swiss francs for Switzerland and euros for all other countries.
• If using a credit card, try to find one that does not have international fees.
• We suggest you plan for about $50 of the local currency per day. This will cover any meals not included, snacks and souvenirs you might want to buy. Again, this is just a suggestion. You can make purchases using cash or credit card, but you should have some cash on hand as there are certain vendors that do not accept credit cards.

Get your Passport

As a member of Musicians Abroad, one of the very first items on your to do list is to make sure you have a valid passport. If you are applying for a new passport, we recommend doing so right away. Then, you will have no worries about receiving it on time. The State Department recommends applying several months in advance of your travel. Also, when you receive it in the mail, it will be a wonderful reminder of the adventures that lie ahead!

Current processing times are 8-11 weeks, which doesn’t include mailing. This time frame also doesn’t include up to two weeks from the time you apply until they begin processing your request.

If you already have a passport, check immediately to make sure that it will be valid for six months after the return date of our tour.

Passports issued for children under age 16 are valid for only five years, not 10 years like adult passports. Check passport expiration dates carefully and renew early.

The MTC Operations Team will reach out to obtain copies of your passport starting in late fall. Your name in the Trip Account system should reflect exactly as it presents on your passport. Please edit your profile accordingly if necessary to ensure names exactly to avoid issues on travel day.

Meet our staff!

We are very proud of our excellent Musicians Abroad staff. The educators are seasoned musicians, many of whom have a wealth of international travel experience. Together they will serve as your teachers and guides during the rehearsal camp and European tour. We have a large number of staff making our ratio of students to staff typically eight to 10 students per staff member.

In this newsletter we will introduce three staff members; XXXXX, XXXXX and XXXXX.
