HEMA ’26 Staff Members- Samuelson, Siler

Each Musicians Abroad tour is guided by an outstanding team of educators who bring leadership, experience and enthusiasm to every step of the journey. These dedicated professionals support students through rehearsals, performances and travel abroad, ensuring each participant has a meaningful and unforgettable experience.

(Patti) Julinne Samuelson

Julinne Samuelson received her undergraduate music degree from Kansas Wesleyan University and her Masters degree from Fort Hays State University. She is in her tenth year as Director of Choirs and Bands for Quinter Schools.

Prior to teaching in Quinter, Ms. Samuelson taught in Derby, Quinter, Fort Hays State University and Pacific Palisades, CA. She has been an adjudicator, produced multiple musical productions and routinely directed groups and soloists receiving superior ratings at State level competition.

Ms. Samuelson has been awarded the KMEA District Teacher of the Year for Elementary and for High School District Teacher of the Year. She currently serves as the District KMEA Jazz Chairperson.

Ms. Samuelson was also the accompanist on a prior Musicians Abroad Tour. She has 3 children and lives in Quinter.

Shelby Siler

As the Co-director of Bands at Maize High School, Shelby Siler has made a significant impact on the school’s music program. Under her leadership, the Maize High Bands have consistently received high regards and superior ratings at various competitions and festivals. In addition to directing the high school program, she also teaches bands at Maize Intermediate and Maize Middle Schools.

Before graduating in 2018 from Kansas State University, Mrs. Siler was an active member of the Pride Marching Band, Wind Ensemble and the band service sorority, Tau Beta Sigma.

In addition to her role at Maize High, she has performed as a bassoonist in the Wichita area in the Salina Symphony, Delano Wind Ensemble and Great Plains Wind Ensemble. Mrs. Siler also teaches private lessons on bassoon, saxophone, clarinet and flute. Many students in her studio have consistently received I Ratings at 6A Regional and State Festivals.

As an active member of the Kansas Music Educators Association, the Kansas Bandmasters Association and the Kansas Women Band Directors Association, Mrs. Siler is committed to the advancement of music education in Kansas.
