You can be an international performer!

We are pleased to inform you that you have been nominated to perform in the NORTH TEXAS MUSICIANS ABROAD concert tour of Europe during the summer of 2027. This outstanding group of musicians comprising a concert band, and chorus will take part in a 16 day, five-country European tour during the summer of 2027. Enclosed you will find an extensive brochure regarding this unique musical adventure.

Our NORTH TEXAS MUSICIANS ABROAD ensembles are made up of honor band, and choir students chosen through director and private teacher nominations. NORTH TEXAS is once again teaming up with highly regarded MUSICIANS ABROAD division of Music Travel Consultants to create an outstanding performance tour of Europe. In 2025, we had approximately 85 terrific student musicians participate! In 2027 with the addition of our choir, we expect that number to double. We have presented many other excellent European musical experiences to thousands of student musicians over the past 30 years.

The 2027 tour will offer you the experience of a lifetime performing concerts and sightseeing in several new cities throughout Europe. We are very proud of our amazing conductors, Eric Wilson and Reginal Wright both from Baylor University and fine musical staff and together, we intend to make your experiences memorable and exciting as the NORTH TEXAS MUSICIANS ABROAD represent our entire state through the universal language of music.

In our MUSICIANS ABROAD brochure, you will find a schedule of dates, times and locations of meetings that will be held throughout the state where we will thoroughly discuss the program. You and your parents should attend one of these meetings to better understand what the tour package includes. The cost of the tour, payment schedules, important dates and how to get trip protection insurance will be some of the topics covered.

The meeting will also include a presentation about the experiences you can expect during the European tour and the Pre-Tour Rehearsal Camp. Specifics regarding travel, accommodations, meals and venues in Europe will be discussed. If you have questions, other than the cost of the trip prior to attending a meeting, please contact the team via email at support@musiciansabroad.com.

Participation in this tour is by nomination only. We received nominations from directors and private teachers throughout the state of Texas Schools. As a result, you have been personally selected for this invitation. We commend you for your hard work and achievements in your school music program.

About J. Eric Wilson

J. Eric Wilson, Professor of Ensembles and Conducting, has been Director of Bands at Baylor University since 2006. He provides administrative leadership for all aspects of the band program, conducts the Wind Ensemble and teaches and oversees the undergraduate and graduate conducting curriculum. Additionally, he has supervised student teachers and served as Chair of the Ensemble Division. Dr. Wilson is a former president of the Big 12 Band Directors Association and Past-President of the CBDNA Southwestern Division. He has been elected to the American Bandmasters Association, the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity and honored as Outstanding Professor for Tenured Teaching by Baylor University in 2014.

Dr. Wilson is in demand as a conducting clinician, adjudicator and performing artist. As a conductor, he has directed numerous regional and state honor bands and conducted his own groups at conventions including the Texas Music Educators Association, College Band Directors National Association, American Bandmasters Association and The Midwest Clinic. He was a featured contributor in the 2015 Meredith Music publication, Rehearsing the Band, Volume 2. As a saxophonist, Dr. Wilson has performed as orchestral saxophonist, recitalist and soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, Waco Symphony Orchestra, Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra, San Angelo Symphony and Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra, in addition to over 100 performances with bands, chamber ensembles and pianists. He is a former member of the nationally known saxophone quartet, Resounding Winds, with which he presented more than 300 concerts, workshops, clinics and seminars in 15 states. Dr. Wilson has received awards and honors from the National Endowment for the Arts, Aaron Copland Fund for Music, Texas Commission on the Arts and Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.

Prior to joining the Baylor faculty, he served 12 years on the faculty of Abilene Christian University. Dr. Wilson holds both a Doctor of Musical Arts degree (wind band conducting) and a Master of Music degree (saxophone performance) from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Abilene Christian University. Prior to his university appointments, Dr. Wilson taught in the Texas public school system. In addition to his performing opportunities as conductor, clinician and saxophonist, he loves spending time with his wife, Lynette and their children. Dr. Wilson especially enjoys his new role as “Papa” for his first grandchild!

About Reginal Wright

Reginal Wright is a distinguished composer, conductor and educator with a passion for creating music that resonates deeply with both performers and audiences. Over his 25-year career, he has become a highly sought-after clinician, working with choirs of all levels, from middle school to professional ensembles. His compositions, which skillfully blend melody, rhythm and text, have been commissioned and performed by a wide range of choirs, including All-State and invited convention choirs.

Reginal has performed extensively across Europe and the United States, bringing his expertise and artistry to a global stage. As a composer, his notable work, “Invictus,” was featured at the 2021 ACDA National Convention and performed by the 2022 Texas All-State Tenor-Bass Choir, cementing his reputation as a leading voice in choral music. His powerful compositions, "Where are the Bodies" and "Opportunity" were both featured at Carnegie Hall with, "Where are the Bodies" performed in collaboration with the renowned Dallas-based Turtle Creek Chorale and "Opportunity" presented in 2023 by the Tomball Memorial HS Choir.

In addition to his accomplishments as a composer and conductor, Reginal has earned numerous awards as an educator, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians. His works are published and distributed by esteemed publishers such as BriLee, Carl Fisher, Graphite, Hal Leonard, Oxford University Press, Santa Barbara Music Publishing, Walton and his own publishing company, Reginal Wright Music.

Residing in Arlington, Reginal continues to inspire through his music, education and leadership within the choral community.

Frank Troyka Coordinator

About Frank Troyka

Frank Troyka is the retired Director of Bands and Coordinator of Fine Arts at Berkner HS in Richardson (TX). A teacher of over 30 years, Frank came to Berkner in May of 2006 following seven years as Director of Bands at Cypress Falls HS in Houston. Ensembles under his direction have been selected to perform at the Music for All National Festival, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and The Midwest Clinic on two occasions with the Symphonic Band at Cypress Falls in 2004 and with the Berkner Symphonic Band in 2011. In addition, Berkner HS Symphonic Band I was named Runner Up on two consecutive occasions in Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Band competition.

Frank is an active clinician, presenting workshops across Texas, throughout the United States and at international destinations including Canada, The Philippines, Singapore, China, Dubai, Qatar, Switzerland, South Africa, Malaysia and Indonesia. He is a frequent presenter at faculty development workshops for public school music teachers and a guest lecturer and instructor for students and teachers.

In addition, Frank is a member of TMEA, the Texas Bandmasters Association and Phi Beta Mu International Bandmaster Fraternity. He is a Senior Educational Clinician with Conn Selmer, Inc.; Senior Educator and Clinician for BD Performing Arts, the educational arm of the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps and one of the founders of both the Generation Next and Day One series of presentations for The Midwest Clinic. He was honored as the 2002-2003 Teacher of the Year at Cypress Falls HS and, while at Berkner HS, was one of 15 recipients in Texas of the 2010 UIL Sponsor Excellence Award. In 2014, Frank was honored by the Texas Bandmasters Association as a recipient of the Meritorious Achievement Award. In March 2016, Frank was inducted into the Bands of America Hall of Fame and Mr. Troyka was named 2019 Bandmaster of the Year by the Texas Bandmasters Association.

Joshua McGuire Choral Coordinator

About Joshua McGuire

Joshua McGuire serves as one of the choir directors at Rock Hill HS. Previous to Rock Hill, he was a choir director at Sachse HS (Garland Independent School District) for 15 years. During his tenure at Sachse HS, choirs performed for the Music Educators National Conference, served as demonstration choirs for the American Choral Directors Association, were honored with placement at the American Classic Madrigal and Chamber Choir Festival in San Antonio and North Texas and were consistently awarded Sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sight Reading. Originally from Illinois, he taught at the middle school and high school levels in the Chicago area.

Mr. McGuire has been honored to serve the directors and students of Texas in various roles within the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) as a Region Vocal Chair, All-State Choir section leader, All-State Choir organizer, the TMEA Convention Vocal Division Clinic and Convention Coordinator, Area B Vocal Division Chair and Area C Vocal Division Chair. Most recently he served as a Vice-President of the TMEA and State Vocal Chair from 2023-2025. He is a candidate for TMEA President-Elect.

Mr. McGuire holds a Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Western Illinois University. He is a member of TMEA, ACDA, TCDA, TMAA, TFAA and Pi Kappa Lambda.
