BYMA ’26 Staff Members- Higgins, Theall

Each Musicians Abroad tour is guided by an outstanding team of educators who bring leadership, experience and enthusiasm to every step of the journey. These dedicated professionals support students through rehearsals, performances and travel abroad, ensuring each participant has a meaningful and unforgettable experience.

Telly S. Higgins

Telly S. Higgins is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Louisiana State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master’s in Music Education. He also completed a year-long student teaching internship at Catholic HS (LA) of Baton Rouge. In June 2020, Mr. Higgins was appointed as the 9th director of the Raider Band and Chapellette Dance Team at Archbishop Rummel HS, a role in which he continues to serve today. Throughout his career, he has worked with numerous marching and concert band programs across Louisiana. He began his teaching career with the band programs at Lafayette HS (LA) before becoming the Assistant Director of Bands at Isidore Newman School in 2008. He later established a general music program for all grade levels at St. Benilde Catholic School. In addition, Higgins has worked with Bands of America, gaining valuable experience in national-level music education and performance. Mr. Higgins remains active in professional organizations and currently serves as a board member of the Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA), representing the parishes of Plaquemines, St. Bernard, Jefferson and Orleans.

Aaron Theall

Aaron Theall is the Director of Bands at DeRidder HS (LA) where he began his teaching career in 2012 after graduating from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor’s in Music Education. Aaron enjoys playing various instruments in multiple ensembles and lives by the motto, “I don’t teach just music. I teach THROUGH music.”
