McCormick Joins Musicians Abroad as Senior Director

Musicians Abroad, an organization based in Indianapolis, provides bi-annual European performance tours for student musicians. The organization was founded in 2022 and has their first two groups departing this June. L. Scott McCormick has accepted the position of Senior Director of Musicians Abroad.

McCormick is a respected and trustworthy leader with more than 30 years of experience driving growth of nonprofit and for-profit music organizations. Most recently, McCormick served as Senior Educational Consultant for J.W. Pepper & Son, the largest distributor of sheet music and accessories in the world.

For 26 years, from 1984-2010, McCormick served as the CEO and President of Bands of America and Music for All, Inc. With a reputation for innovation and quality programming, his influence on the music industry has been described as lasting and pivotal—creating new experiences for students, educators and parents within diverse educational communities, while garnering crucial industry support and building a culture around the organization’s mission.

McCormick was named a Lowell Mason Fellow in 2010 by the National Association for Music Education, honoring his contributions to the field of music education and was inducted into the Bands of America Hall of Fame. He is a 2008 recipient of the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters’ Fraternity Outstanding Contributor award and was awarded the Citation of Excellence from the National Band Association for Outstanding Contribution to Bands and Band Music in 2010. He is also a member of the American Bandmasters Association.

Musicians Abroad supports the performance dreams of both vocal and instrumental musicians in a growing number of states across the U.S. Collegiate and secondary education music educators and student performers come together for a multi-day rehearsal workshop. During that time, ensembles receive top-notch instruction while getting to know other members of the group. At the end of this intensive training, the students, faculty and staff depart on their two-week European performance tour.

“International travel and music performances are life-changing experiences. I am thrilled to join this incredible organization, focusing my efforts on growing these opportunities for more student musicians nationwide.”

Scott McCormick
