2027 Kentucky Musicians Abroad Concert Band CALL FOR RECORDINGS

Dear Kentucky Musicians Abroad Concert Band Students,

I hope that you’ve had a wonderful fall semester of making music in your local school band program. At Kentucky Musicians Abroad, we never really stop the planning process for your
upcoming international experiences. Our team is excited about the wonderful intercultural and musical opportunities that we will be sharing with you and I need your help with the next
important part.
In order to make the appropriate part assignments, choose repertoire, and consider potential soloists for our Kentucky Musicians Abroad Concert Bands, I need a recording from you. Please send it to my email address as an mp3 attachment by Friday, February 19, 2027. Any time earlier would be even better! If you need help, I’m sure your school music teacher or private instructor can assist you.

Woodwind and Brass Players

At the very beginning of your recording please announce your name. Then, put two, one-minute examples of your playing on the recording. One example should be lyrical in nature, with the other
being more technical. It’s best to choose selections on which you are comfortable, not the most difficult piece you’ve ever tried. Follow those two examples with a one or two octave chromatic scale
(ascending and descending) beginning on the pitch of your choice. Identify the mp3 file by typing the name of your instrument, followed by your first and last name (e.g., Flute James Galway).

Percussion Players

At the very beginning of your recording please announce your name. Then, put two, one-minute examples of your playing on the recording. The first example should be a snare drum excerpt, with
the second being a mallet excerpt. If you are uncomfortable with one of the instrument families, you may put two examples of the same instrument on the recording. Identify the mp3 file by typing the name of your instrument, followed by your first and last name (e.g., Percussion Evelyn Glennie).

Email the mp3 recording to: frederick.speck@louisville.edu

Finally, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,
Frederick Speck, DMA
