Let’s Get Physical – Preparing for Your Tour

Being on tour for a couple of weeks is full of amazing adventures, wonderful performances and lots of fun! The trip will be both exhilarating and exhausting. Check out our tips for getting your mind and body ready for the journey. Let’s get physical!

January
It’s a new year and a new you as you prepare for your trip to Europe with Musicians Abroad. When weather permits, take a walk around the block. If your school or work has stairs, take them up and down a couple of times a week. Start hydrating more often and find a good book. Our flights and some bus rides are longer and a perfect time to unplug. Learn about a site you are visiting on your trip.

February
Love is in the air, so why not increase your lung capacity? Turn those trips around the block into six-block walks. Push yourself a little bit and get your heart rate to increase. Just like Mr. Miyagi suggested, breathe in through the nose, out through the mouth. If you didn’t get new sneakers over the holidays, now is the time to buy some new kicks and start breaking them in. You’ll need good support for our walks around European cities. More water!

March
Spring is just around the corner as is Spring Break. With later sunsets, it’s a perfect month to get moving even more. Increase your several-block walk to a full mile round trip. Jog a few of the blocks if you can. Find some stairs in the neighborhood or at school and truck up and down them a few times a week. Create a playlist of songs for your walk – might we suggest Les Champs-Elysees. Learn a little French while you’re on your walk. Did someone say more water?

April
The flowers are in bloom and so is excitement for your trip in just a few months. It’s never too early to begin putting together your suitcase. How are your shoes holding up? Weather can fluctuate so you will want to have chilly to blazing hot options in your bag. Your strolls around town have turned into what some would call a speed walk. Stairs are always the best option as you have conditioned yourself to be an expert traveler. Practice up some of the most common phrases in French and German – FR: Bonjour GR: Hallo FR: toilettes GR: toilette. See, that was easy. Your water bottle has become a jug.

May
In Indianapolis, we race cars around a 2.5-mile oval in the month of May. Time for you to follow suit. Take a hike through the woods or on a covered trail, search out all the stairs you can find and go on a few runs a week. You not only have tons of energy, you can complete your course without getting tired. Your playlist is full of new languages and European hits. Make sure your shoes are ready for the miles ahead, shop for your final needed items and finish up your packing list. Drinking water is your love language.

June
And away we go. Stay active, practice up on your parts and make a list of the presents you will bring back for loved ones that helped you be a part of Musicians Abroad. Pack light – you’ll need room for souvenirs and gifts. Practice your new language skills on your siblings or pets and pick up a bestseller or favorite paperback for your travels. Purge the photos in your phone so you have space for all the great images and movies you’ll capture. Arrive at pre-tour camp with your passport and your favorite water bottle. After all, you’ve become inseparable.
